Amir Khan has a different approach for his films after theatrical releases
Aamir Khan Releases Sitaare Zameen Par on YouTube with Pay-Per-View Model
Actor and filmmaker Aamir Khan has decided to release his latest movie Sitaare Zameen Par directly on YouTube instead of an OTT platform. Viewers can watch the film by paying ₹100 on his new channel, Aamir Khan Talkies. He calls this a “private cinema chain” in everyone’s home and pocket, aiming to make movie-watching more accessible, especially for people who can’t afford to go to theatres or subscribe to streaming platforms.
Aamir said he received good offers from OTT platforms but chose this model because it allows him to connect directly with his audience. The idea is simple — like buying a movie ticket at a theatre, people can now pay once to watch the film digitally. He believes YouTube, which is available on almost all smartphones and TVs, combined with widespread internet access and digital payment options, makes this the right time for such a move.
He hopes this new approach will inspire other filmmakers to tell bold, creative stories without worrying about big studio pressures. In India, only 2–3% of the population goes to theatres, and Aamir wants to reach the remaining 97% through digital pay-per-view. If successful, he says it could be a gamechanger for the film industry and bring back the true spirit of mass cinema.
