Andhra Pradesh Rises to Second in India Justice Report 2025
Andhra Pradesh has made a significant leap in justice delivery, securing the second rank among 18 large and mid-sized states in the India Justice Report (IJR) 2025. This marks a notable improvement from its fifth-place standing in 2022. The southern state also performed strongly in specific categories, achieving fourth place in 'prisons' and fifth in 'legal aid', demonstrating its commitment to strengthening justice systems and providing effective services.
The India Justice Report, initiated by Tata Trusts and first published in 2019, is a collaborative effort involving organisations such as the Centre for Social Justice, Common Cause, and the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative.
The 2025 edition is based on 24 months of quantitative research, tracking states' performance in strengthening justice delivery systems and their capacity to provide mandated services effectively. The IJR combines official statistics from government sources with data from the four pillars of justice delivery: police, judiciary, prisons, and legal aid.
TDP national spokesperson Jyothsna Tirunagari expressed delight at the "dramatic turnaround" in the state's ranking, stating, "We are committed to being No. 1 in the next ranking". While Andhra Pradesh secured second place, Karnataka topped the overall ranking in justice delivery among large and mid-sized states. This report underscores Andhra Pradesh's progressive strides in enhancing its justice mechanisms.
