Another sacrifice of a mother for her child

On June 12, a horrifying tragedy struck Ahmedabad when Air India’s IC171 flight crashed into the BJ Medical College residential quarters, claiming 260 lives. Among the chaos and destruction, a powerful story of love and survival emerged—one that centered around Manisha Kachhadiya and her eight-month-old baby, Dhyaansh. As the flames and thick smoke filled their hostel, Manisha’s only thought was to protect her son. She held him tightly and shielded him with her own body, determined to get him out alive despite the intense heat and confusion all around her.

Both mother and son suffered serious burn injuries—Manisha with burns on her face and hands, and baby Dhyaansh with burns on his face, arms, chest, and stomach. They were rushed to KD Hospital, where Dhyaansh was put on ventilator support and received intensive treatment. What made this story even more heart-warming was when the baby needed skin grafts to recover, Manisha donated her own skin for her child, once again protecting him in the most selfless way possible.

The medical team worked tirelessly to save them both, and slowly, they began to heal. With careful treatment and support from doctors across different departments, both mother and baby recovered well. Last week, they were finally discharged from the hospital. This emotional journey of survival showed not just the strength of a mother’s love but also how hope and courage can shine even in the darkest moments.
