Another gang rape shakes the country: 26 year old allegedly raped in Bihar

A 26-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped inside a moving ambulance in Bihar’s Gaya district on 24 July, following her collapse during a Home Guard recruitment drive. The shocking incident occurred at the Bihar Military Police grounds in Bodh Gaya, where she was undergoing a physical endurance test. After losing consciousness during the demanding examination, the woman was being transported to a hospital when the horrific assault reportedly took place. This case has once again brought the critical issue of public safety to the forefront in the region.

According to her statement, she was sexually assaulted by three to four men while she was unconscious inside the ambulance. Following her brave complaint, an FIR was swiftly registered at the Bodh Gaya police station. Police quickly identified and arrested two suspects: Vinay Kumar, the ambulance driver, and Ajit Kumar, a technician on board. Both individuals, identified as Vinay Kumar of Utren village and Ajit Kumar of Chandanpur village, are currently in custody as investigations continue.

Authorities wasted no time, forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and dispatching a forensic team to assist with the probe. The woman's statement was recorded, and she was sent for a medical examination at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital. CCTV footage reportedly supports the victim's account, confirming the ambulance’s route and timeline, which aided in the rapid identification and arrest of the accused within hours. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anand Kumar has pledged a swift investigation and a recommendation for a speedy trial to ensure justice.

The alleged gang-rape has ignited widespread outrage across the country and raised serious concerns about law enforcement in Bihar.
