Army Chief Says Operation Sindoor Was a Strong Message to Pakistan
General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff, has said that Operation Sindoor sent a strong and clear message to Pakistan: India will not tolerate cross-border terrorism and will act decisively when necessary.
The operation was launched along the Line of Control (LoC) in May following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The Army carried out surgical strikes on nine extremist sites, targeting terror infrastructure while avoiding civilian casualties.
General Dwivedi emphasized that India has entered a “new normal” doctrine, where suspected terror supporters will no longer escape consequences. He explained that the operation also signalled that India’s resolve to protect its borders is unwavering.
He praised the discipline and courage of Indian soldiers and highlighted how the coordinated efforts of the Army, Navy, and Air Force have enhanced India’s operational capability. The general also noted recent advancements, such as the formation of Bhairav Light Commando units, addition of drone platoons to infantry divisions, and specialized Rudra Brigades for rapid response.
This comes as India faces continuing threats from terror groups operating out of Pakistani soil. Officials from the External Affairs Ministry described the strikes as “measured and non-escalatory,” meant to degrade terror targets without triggering wider conflict.
