BJP Accuses Tejashwi Yadav of Voter ID Violation Calls for Probe
Senior BJP leaders on Saturday leveled serious allegations against RJD leader and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, claiming he possessed two voter ID cards from different constituencies — a violation under Indian electoral laws.
The BJP has demanded immediate action by the Election Commission, calling it a case of “criminal misconduct and electoral fraud.” The accusation comes amid rising political temperatures in Bihar ahead of the 2025 state elections.
According to BJP spokesperson K.K. Pathak, Tejashwi Yadav holds voter IDs registered in both Delhi and Bihar. “This is not just a technical oversight. This is a criminal offense under Section 17 of the Representation of the People Act. How can someone who wants to lead Bihar have two identities as a voter?” Pathak said at a press conference in Patna.
The RJD, however, was quick to dismiss the charges as politically motivated. A senior party official called the claims “baseless” and accused the BJP of attempting to distract from pressing governance issues and inflation ahead of the polls. “Tejashwi Yadav is a public figure. His records are in the open. This is nothing but a desperate stunt,” the spokesperson said.
Legal experts note that holding more than one voter ID or being registered in multiple constituencies is indeed an offense, though proving criminal intent requires evidence beyond clerical discrepancies.
The Election Commission has not issued a formal statement yet, but sources indicate that a preliminary inquiry may be launched if a formal complaint is filed with evidence.
The development adds another layer of tension to the already charged political atmosphere in Bihar, where parties are scrambling to consolidate support ahead of a tough electoral battle. Whether this accusation sticks or fizzles out will depend on the investigation — but the political noise around it is unlikely to die down soon.
