Coaches of Islamabad Express derailed near Lahore injuring at least 30 people

According to Pakistan Railways, the Islamabad Express, enroute to Rawalpindi, derailed about 50 kms from Lahore. Officials confirmed on Saturday (August 2, 2025) that at least 30 passengers sustained injuries in the mishap.

The derailment occurred nearly 30 minutes after the train departed from Lahore station and went off tracks near Kala Shah Kaku. The railways in their official statement recorded “At least 10 coaches of the train have been derailed in Sheikhupura on Friday, leaving about 30 people injured.”

Rescue teams were sent immediately and the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital whilst renewed efforts to retrieve those trapped in the coaches is underway. No fatalities have been reported so far. Pakistani Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has directed a probe into the situation and a detailed report on the train derailment has to be submitted within seven days.
