DGCA finds lapses at airlines in annual audit

A recent annual audit conducted by India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has brought to light a significant number of safety-related lapses across major Indian airlines having 263 identified instances. This audit underscores areas requiring immediate attention within the nation's aviation sector.

Among the carriers, IndiGo was found to have 23 lapses, while Air India, the country's second-largest airline, recorded a notably higher figure of 51 lapses. At the time of the report, Akasa Air's audit was still pending.
Further details from the audit, particularly concerning Air India, reveal more severe compliance issues.

The DGCA reportedly flagged as many as 100 safety lapses within Air India, critically including 7 Level 1 violations. Key areas under scrutiny for Air India encompassed crucial operational aspects such as pilot rostering and the proper functioning of emergency gear. Moreover, some reports indicate that Air India is facing accusations of "serious violations" following a fatal crash.

These findings collectively highlight a critical need for major Indian airlines to enhance their safety compliance frameworks and operational adherence to ensure the highest standards of passenger safety.
