DRDO Successfully Tests First Drone of India and Launched Missile
In a major step towards strengthening India’s defence technology, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test-fired the country’s first missile launched from an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone).
The test was carried out in Chitradurga, Karnataka, where the missile hit its target with high precision. This achievement shows that India is moving closer to creating indigenous drone-based attack systems, which are essential in modern warfare.
This new system, called ABHYAS, uses a tap-guided missile that can be launched from a drone. The target was a fake enemy radar, and the missile successfully identified and destroyed it. According to DRDO officials, this drone-based missile system is meant to destroy enemy surveillance radars and ground-based air defence systems.
Experts say that this will give India a strong edge in any future conflict. It allows Indian forces to strike key enemy assets without risking soldiers' lives, as the entire system can work remotely.
The defence organisation said this innovation is part of its push towards “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) in defence, reducing dependence on foreign military technology.
Sources in the DRDO also confirmed that the test will now be followed by more trials before the system is handed over to the Indian Armed Forces. The success of this test adds to India’s growing list of achievements in home-grown missile and drone technology.
