First day of Operation Sindoor debate sees heated scenes in Parliament

Delhi-The inaugural day of the special parliamentary debate on Operation Sindoor was marred by intense chaos, sharp exchanges, and repeated adjournments, as both the ruling party and opposition clashed over the government's handling of the sensitive counter-terror operation in Jammu & Kashmir.

The debate, meant to provide a platform for detailed discussions on the objectives, execution, and implications of the operation, quickly turned into a political battleground. The opposition raised concerns over alleged intelligence failures and questioned the government's narrative, demanding clarity on civilian impact and security protocols.

Members from the treasury benches defended the operation, hailing it as a strategic success against cross-border terrorism. They accused the opposition of politicizing national security and undermining the morale of security forces engaged in the high-risk mission.

Speaker of the House struggled to maintain order as several MPs raised slogans, walked into the well of the House, and disrupted proceedings. The session had to be adjourned twice due to the ruckus.

The government, earlier in the day, had urged all parties to participate in the debate “with seriousness and sensitivity,” stressing that national interest must rise above political divides. However, tempers flared as lawmakers traded blame over the timing, transparency, and consequences of the operation.

Operation Sindoor, launched earlier this month, aimed to neutralize terror threats along the Kashmir Valley’s border districts. The Defence Ministry has claimed significant gains, including the elimination of key terror operatives.

The debate is expected to continue in the coming days.
