The coordinated assault targeted the judicial building in Sistan-Baluchestan province. Armed militants from the terrorist group Jaish al-Adl stormed the courthouse. The assailants, confirmed as Jaish al-Adl militants, launched a planned operation, attempting to enter disguised as visitors before storming the building. Three assailants were killed during these confrontations, a senior police official confirmed to the state news agency.
Jaish al-Adl (Arabic for Army of Justice) is a Baloch armed group active in Iran, though primarily based in Pakistan. The group claimed responsibility via Telegram, urging civilians to evacuate for safety. Iranian authorities deem Jaish al-Adl a terrorist organisation, accusing it of foreign backing, including "Zionists".The Sistan-Baluchestan province, bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, has a two-decade-long insurgency, making such clashes frequent. It is home to Iran’s Sunni Muslim Baloch minority, who claim economic marginalisation and political exclusion. Previous incidents in the region include a Jaish al-Adl attack in December 2023 that killed 11 people.
