Floodgates opened in Rajasthan owing to heavy rainfall

Torrential downpour has triggered a flood like situation in several districts of Rajasthan. The Meteorological Department has predicted very heavy rainfall in Ajmer, Jaipur, Bikaner and Jodhpur on Thursday. 

Several dams are overflowing with water and schools were closed in 14 districts on Tuesday. The Chambal river has been flowing 2.5 metres above the danger mark of 165 metres. Many low lying neighbourhoods experience severe flooding. 

Rescue operations are being carried out by the State Disaster Response Force along with 21 volunteers in civil defence. The Sukhani River is also in spate submerging the low lying areas encompassing it in the Pipalda subdivision of Kota. Parvati River, flowing 3 metres above the danger mark, has wreaked havoc in Bundi, Baran and other districts. 

Jaipur too has received heavy rainfall starting in the early hours of Wednesday leading to waterlogging and traffic jams. The Chief Minister has personally visited the affected areas to take gauge the situation.
