Four arrested in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli for alleged child trafficking

Police in Uttar Pradesh have arrested four people, including two women who run marriage bureaus in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli, for allegedly operating a child trafficking network.

According to officials, the group is accused of abducting infants and selling them to childless couples in different states. Investigators said the gang specifically targeted fair-skinned newborns, which reportedly fetched prices of up to ₹5 lakh.

The arrests were made following a tip-off, and police claim to have rescued several children linked to the operation. Further inquiries are underway to identify other victims and possible buyers.

Authorities stated that the case highlights the need for stronger monitoring of adoption and childcare processes to prevent such crimes.
