Glass Woman of India
Fondly known as India’s Glass Woman, Dhanya Ravi has redefined what it means to rise above society’s predefined mindset. Born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI)—a rare genetic disorder also called brittle bone disease—Dhanya has lived with over 200 fractures since birth. Doctors once told her she would never live a “normal” life. But instead of being broken by her condition, she chose to transform her pain into purpose. She's born in November,1989.
Today, Dhanya is a disability evangelist, changemaker, and the founding member of the Aasmaan Foundation Trust. She actively raises awareness about rare diseases, advocates for early diagnosis, and champions visibility for the differently-abled community.
Her impact spans far and wide—having delivered motivational talks to over 4,000 people globally and raising ₹1.58 crore to support patients in need of treatments and assistive devices. She also organizes India’s largest fashion show for the differently-abled, volunteers by recording audiobooks for the visually impaired, and raises awareness on critical health issues.
Dhanya credits her neighbour, Victoria Aunty, who homeschooled her, as the foundation of her journey. With access to the internet, she completed a preparatory course from IGNOU and earned a certificate in novel writing.
Her work has earned national recognition, including the prestigious National Award for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, and she has inspired many through TEDx and Josh Talks.
