Gujarat ATS Busts Al Qaeda Linked Terror Module Arrests 4 Suspects
The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has uncovered a major terror plot after arresting four individuals with alleged links to the terror group Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). These arrests were made during raids carried out in Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat.
According to officials, the four men were in touch with AQIS handlers operating from foreign countries, and were reportedly planning a terror attack in India. The group had been under surveillance for weeks based on intelligence inputs shared by central agencies.
The arrested individuals were reportedly radicalised online, and were in possession of digital materials, including jihadi literature and communication with AQIS operatives. Officials said they were trying to recruit more youth into their network, posing a serious threat to national security.
All four suspects have been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and other relevant laws. They are currently being interrogated to find out more about their plans and any other associates connected to the module.
Sources also confirmed that the accused were inspired by AQIS’s ideology and had been in regular contact with their handlers abroad, possibly through encrypted apps and chat groups.
The Gujarat ATS is continuing its investigation and working with central intelligence agencies to determine the full extent of the terror network and prevent any future attacks.
This operation marks a major breakthrough in India’s fight against homegrown terrorism and online radicalisation.
