Kargil War Living Legend

More you Sweat in peace
Less you bleed in War

Captain Yashika Hatwal Tyagi, a brave woman who served our nation during the Kargil War of 1999.
At a time when women were rarely seen in war zones, Captain Yashika stepped up with unwavering courage. She was the first female logistics officer posted at high altitude in Leh, responsible for ensuring that our soldiers at the front lines received food, medicines, warm clothing, and ammunition.
What makes her story even more remarkable is that she was five months pregnant while serving in one of the toughest war zones in the world! Despite the bitter cold, thin air, and constant risk of attack, she never left her post. She stayed strong, coordinated logistics, and made sure that not a single supply route failed. Her dedication saved many lives.
Her husband, Colonel Sanjeev Tyagi, was also serving in the army — making them a legendary couple of the Kargil War.
Years later, the nation honoured her bravery. She was awarded the Kargil Star, Operation Vijay Medal, and recently received an honour from President Draupadi Murmu — becoming the first woman veteran to salute the President from Kartavya Path on Republic Day.
Captain Yashika once said, “Pregnancy is not a disability; it is a responsibility. And I had two — my baby and my country.”
Let her story remind us that true strength lies not in muscles, but in the heart.
