Monsoon Rains in Pakistan Kill 266 People, Many Still in Danger

Since June 26, heavy monsoon rains in Pakistan have caused the death of at least 266 people and injured more than 600, as per the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The worst-hit area is Punjab, where 144 people lost their lives. Other affected areas include Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (63 deaths), Sindh (25 deaths), Balochistan (16 deaths), Islamabad (8 deaths), and Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, which also saw damage and injuries.

The rains caused serious flooding, leading to the collapse of houses, damage to roads, and electricity cuts. Many families have lost their homes, and animals have also died, affecting farmers badly.

Rescue teams and government workers are helping people by giving food, water, medicine, and temporary shelters. But many people in faraway villages are still waiting for help.

The Pakistan weather department has warned that more rains may come soon. People in low-lying and risky areas have been asked to shift to safer places.

This year’s monsoon has been especially bad. Experts say climate change is making such weather worse. They are asking the government to work more on disaster management, build stronger roads and houses, and send early warnings to save lives in the future.

The situation is still very serious, and the people of Pakistan are in great need of support and care during this difficult time.
