PM Modi Begins UK Visit to Finalise Major Trade Deal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in the United Kingdom today to kickstart a crucial two-day state visit aimed at finalising a landmark Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the UK. This will be India's first major trade pact outside Asia.

During his visit, PM Modi will hold high-level meetings with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, focusing on boosting cooperation in areas like defence, technology, climate change, education, and trade. He is also expected to meet King Charles at Buckingham Palace.

Sources say that both sides have already agreed on key points of the FTA, which could reduce tariffs, ease investment rules, and create more job opportunities in both countries. This trade deal is being seen as a milestone in India-UK ties, especially after Brexit.

PM Modi’s trip to the UK comes just months after the Labour Party’s return to power in Britain, signaling a fresh chapter in diplomatic relations. Apart from trade, both countries are also looking to expand people-to-people connections, especially in the education and tourism sectors.

After the UK, Modi will travel to the Maldives on July 25 for another key diplomatic visit, as India continues to strengthen its presence and partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region.
