Priority given to airlift advanced equipment to Dharali after Uttarkhand flash floods

Rescue efforts in Uttarakhand’s Dharali village have gained urgency following devastating flash floods caused by a cloudburst. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has stated that the top priority is to airlift advanced rescue equipment to the flood‑hit area, where landslides have blocked roads and left huge mounds of debris as high as 50 to 60 feet.

Earlier attempts to reach the site faced delays due to the damaged roads. The specialized machinery is expected to help rescuers clear rubble more effectively and locate those trapped beneath it.

Meanwhile, ground teams continue their search with tools like ground-penetrating radars and sniffer dogs, while Army, NDRF, ITBP, and local forces coordinate the relief operation.

The floods have taken a heavy toll—at least four people have died, and dozens remain missing, including 11 army personnel from a nearby camp. Authorities have also rescued over 60 people so far and are maintaining constant alert amid ongoing rain and challenging terrain.
