Six point one magnitude Earthquake Hits Turkiye Leaving One Dead and Several Injured

A powerful earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck Türkiye early Monday, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to dozens of others, according to local authorities. The tremor was felt across several provinces, causing panic among residents and prompting emergency evacuations.

The quake’s epicentre was reported in the western part of the country, with vibrations felt in major cities and nearby rural areas. Search and rescue teams were immediately deployed to assess damage and assist the injured. Hospitals in affected regions received multiple casualties, with officials confirming that most injuries were caused by falling debris and stampedes during the panic.

Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) confirmed the magnitude and stated that aftershocks are likely, advising residents to remain cautious and avoid entering damaged buildings. Authorities have also set up temporary shelters for those whose homes have been deemed unsafe.

Local media footage showed cracked buildings, shattered windows, and residents gathering in open spaces despite cold weather conditions. Electricity disruptions were reported in certain areas, though officials said restoration work was underway.
