The Growing Threat of Prostate Cancer In Men: Risks and Prevention

Prostate cancer is a growing health concern among men worldwide nowadays. According to the American Cancer Society, about one in eight men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime. Men are getting diagnosed with prostrate cancer at a high rate and is increasing mortality rates. Prostrate cancer is hard to detect as it doesn't exhibit any early symptoms. The risk factors for prostate cancer are multifaceted, and understanding them is necessary for prevention and early detection.

What is prostrate cancer?
Prostate cancer is characterized by abnormal cell growth in the prostate gland, a small walnut-shaped organ under the bladder in males, forming tumors that may spread to other body parts. This grows slowly and silently later on turns to be deadly. Though early diagnosis and proper treatment could reduce the chances of  severity and may improve the chances of long term survival.

What habits put you at a risk of Prostate cancer?

The risk of prostate cancer increases with age, with most men diagnosed at 65 or older. Age is the most common risk factor, and the older a man is, the greater the chance of getting prostate cancer. Men with a family history of prostate cancer are at higher risk, especially if their father or brother had the disease before age 65. Surveys suggested that family history can double or triple a man's risk compared to the general population. Certain genetic mutations can increase the risk of prostate cancer. Some studies suggest that lifestyle factors such as smoking, diet, and physical activity puts individuals at a high risk of developing prostrate cancer.

How you can prevent and how it can be created at an early stage?

Regular screenings can help detect prostate cancer early, when it's more treatable. The American Cancer Society recommends discussing screening options with a doctor at age 45 for men with a family history or other risk factors. Men with multiple risk factors should consider screening at age 40. A recent study found that men who attend regular prostate cancer screenings have a 23% lower risk of dying from the disease compared to those who don't attend screenings. This throws light on the importance of regular check-ups and screenings in preventing prostate cancer deaths. By understanding the risk factors and taking proactive steps, men can reduce their risk of developing prostate cancer and improve their chances of survival.
