Thousands Return to Sudan as Army Recaptures Khartoum
Khartoum-Thousands of Sudanese citizens who had taken refuge in Egypt are now returning home following the Sudanese army’s recapture of key areas in the capital, Khartoum. The city had been a major battleground in the country’s civil conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to Sudanese authorities, the military regained control over large portions of Khartoum after weeks of intense fighting. This development has given hope to many displaced families, who are now making the difficult journey back from Egypt and other neighboring countries.
The return of civilians marks a significant shift in the conflict, with the SAF claiming momentum in their bid to restore national stability. However, humanitarian agencies warn that basic infrastructure in Khartoum remains heavily damaged, and access to food, clean water, and medical services is still limited.
Despite the challenges, returnees expressed cautious optimism. “We’ve lost so much, but it’s time to rebuild,” said one Khartoum resident who recently crossed the border back into Sudan.
While the conflict is far from over, the army’s territorial gains and the return of displaced citizens signal a potential turning point in Sudan’s prolonged crisis.
