Three Wounded in Times Square Shooting After Verbal Altercation

Three individuals were injured in a shooting that rocked New York's Times Square early on Saturday, 9 August 2025. The incident, which occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m. local time (0520 GMT), followed a verbal argument involving one of the victims, according to police.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed that the wounded are an 18-year-old female, a 19-year-old male, and a 65-year-old male, all of whom are in stable condition in hospital. A 17-year-old male suspect has been taken into custody, and a firearm was recovered. It is currently unclear whether the suspect and the victims knew each other.

This shooting comes as New York City had recently recorded its lowest number of shooting incidents and victims for the first seven months of the year and in July. Despite this, mass shootings remain a regular occurrence across the United States, where firearms are widely available.
