At least 21 people lost their lives in a deadly attack on a church in eastern Congo. The attackers are believed to be part of a rebel group that is linked to the Islamic State (IS). The violence took place in North Kivu province, an area that has suffered from repeated rebel attacks over the years. The group responsible is thought to be the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), which has pledged loyalty to IS. Witnesses say the attackers entered the church during a prayer gathering and opened fire. Many people were shot or injured by explosives. Authorities say over 30 people were seriously hurt and taken to hospitals for treatment.
