US Sanctions Six Indian Firms Over Iran Oil Trade Breaches

The United States has imposed sanctions on six Indian companies for their alleged involvement in significant transactions concerning Iranian petrochemical and petroleum products. On 31 July, 2025 the US Department announced these actions are part of a broader global crackdown targeting twenty entities across multiple nations, including the UAE, Türkiye, and Indonesia. Washington's aim is to sever Iran's oil-based revenue streams, which it claims fund destabilising activities.

The sanctions entail a freeze on any assets these firms hold in the United States or under US control, prohibiting American citizens and companies from engaging in business with them. The State Department stated these companies collectively imported "tens of millions of dollars’ worth" of Iranian-origin petrochemicals, with $220 million in deals under scrutiny. The US asserts these transactions generate "billions of dollars in illicit funds for Iran's destabilising activities" and support for terrorism.

Among the named Indian firms are Alchemical Solutions Private Limited, accused of importing over $84 million in petrochemicals.
 Global Industrial Chemicals Limited, linked to over $51 million in Iranian methanol and other substances. 
Jupiter Dye Chem Private Limited and Ramniklal S Gosalia and Company were also cited for significant imports.

India has historically maintained extensive trade relations with Iran, though imports were significantly reduced following previous US sanctions in 2019. Despite this, business links reportedly persisted through indirect routes. The named Indian companies have yet to issue official responses, but the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control offers a pathway for sanctioned parties to challenge their designation.
